Understated & Simple Crochet Cardigan Pattern

Oh, the Toasted Marshmallow Cardigan! To be completely honest, as I was making it, I was pretty neutral towards the design. BUT, as soon as I put it on when I was done, I was blown away by it. This simple crochet cardigan is so versatile, perfect for a casual day running errands while wearing leggings. Or you can dress it up with a simple dress. It’ll be your new favorite go-to cardigan!

Yarn

The yarn for this cardigan is WeCrochet’s Wonderfluff, and to say I’m OBSESSED is an understatement. This is officially my new favorite yarn. It’s a bulky yarn that’s a blend of Baby Alpaca, Merino Wool, & Nylon. It’s seriously one of the softest yarns I’ve ever touched and I don’t say that lightly (LOL).

Baby Alpaca has always been my favorite fiber, and this yarn truly allows the soft, pliable nature of that fiber shine. I think the best part about it, apart from the feel of it, is that it’s a bulky yarn that doesn’t FEEL bulky. It’s so light, so you get the best of both worlds: a crochet project that works up quickly but doesn’t feel heavy. Sometimes I find other bulky yarns on the market to feel too heavy when in cardigan/sweater form, leading to a garment not being super comfortable. However, Wonderfluff truly amazes, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Crochet Hook & Stitches

As always, I used a Furls hook for this crochet cardigan project. Specifically, I used a Furls Streamline Resin in Cafe (6.0mm). These hooks have thick grips that prevent hand cramps so you can throw on Netflix, light a candle, and blast out hours of crochet without having to take a break. They also look lovely too! (Check out this post I did on Furls Crochet hooks to find out more information on why I think they’re fabulous!)

The stitches for this crochet cardigan may surprise you! It’s actually mostly single crochet stitches. I think sometimes people underestimate how stunningly versatile and elegant the basic crochet stitches can be. There’s nothing I hate more than having to “concentrate” on my crocheting. I’ll take a simple, mindless crochet project over a more complicated one ANY DAY. Anyway, because the stitches and construction for this crochet cardigan are so simple, it’s a GREAT beginner project. If you’re thinking “Oh man, I’ve never made a sweater before, but I really want to!”, then this project would be perfect! (A few other crochet patterns I have made COMPLETELY of single crochet stitches are the Happy Stripes Cardigan & the Happy Stripes Pullover, so check those out if you love simple single crochet patterns like I do!)
