Easy Crochet Dress Pattern
Who doesn’t love a fabulous dress pattern?! The Lemon Drop Sundress is an easy crochet dress pattern for beginners that was featured in the July 2022 Issue of Crochet Foundry Magazine. It features a cool, classic two-tone design with a super flattering fit. The magazine issue also contains designs that include: a poncho, a ton, a bolero, and a cardigan! I absolutely love the theme of the issue, Pink Lemonade, because it focuses on designs that showcase beautiful color tones that range from yellows and pinks with a splash of teal!
Dress Construction & Fit
One of the best parts of this design is that the dress is down top-down. The reason this is FABULOUS is because you can repeatedly try on the dress as you’re making it to ensure the perfect fit. The dress is designed to have 3-5 inches of negative ease which tricks the eye by creating the appearance of shaping in the upper portion. The other fun design element is the ruching! This is when you gather the center-front of the dress to create the illusion of a sweetheart neckline.

Yarn
I used WeCrochet Shine Sport in Dandelion and Blush for this dress pattern. Shine Sport is an amazing blend of pima cotton and Modal natural beech wood fiber that creates a yarn that feels incredibly silky. However, this silkiness does not mean it is delicate, as it is a strong fiber that does not have a propensity for pilling. This makes it ideal for crochet projects that will be built to last! Some other great qualities about this yarn include that it does not split as you’re crocheting with it, and it comes in 30 colors. The wide range of colors means you can really let your imagination run wild!

Crochet Hook & Stitches
It will probably shock no one when I say that what crochet hook I used for this project – a Furls Streamline Resin! These hooks are my absolute favorite and I use them for every single crochet project. I have a set I received about a year ago (Shout out to my parents for the amazing birthday gift!) and honestly there has been no looking back. These hooks are stunning and crocheting with them is a breeze because of the thick handles. Check out the post I did comparing different Furls crochet hooks here for more information!
The stitch I used for this is actually one of my personal favorites, the griddle stitch! It basically consists of alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches throughout, which makes for a great cozy, plushy fabric. This stitch basically consists of alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches. At first when I learned this stitch, I was nervous that alternating stitches would require me to “pay attention” to my crochet a bit more than I’d like. But you actually get into a nice rhythm with it and now it’s become my favorite stitch! The result of this crochet stitch is a surface that looks almost like a textured fabric. Because the yarn is a light, sport weight, the dress is still cool & light; perfect for summer! If you like this stitch, check out the Ava Cardigan and the Wildflower Cardigan too!
