Easy Breezy Cardigan

Can somebody please explain to me when wine and crafting became the perfect pairing? It seems that in the last few years, the whole planet realized that sipping wine and working on creative projects is a sublime combination. Those paint-and-sip places all popped up overnight and now crafting and wine are linked inextricably. Someday, you’ll be at a fine restaurant or a vineyard and when they bring the wine list, the recommended pairings will be things like “painting a birdhouse” and “leatherworking.”

The Pink Wine Cardigan celebrates those beloved nights of crocheting with a cold glass of rosé. Even though the crochet spring cardigan appears to have an intricate design, it’s actually an easy crochet cardigan pattern! For this piece, I made use of “negative space” to create intricate designs on the body and sleeves. Therefore, by adding simple chain spaces, I was able to open stitches that come together to form “V” patterns on the front and back.  This project has a touch of femininity that is perfect for the spring season!

Recommended Yarns

To make this lacy spring cardigan, you must look no further than your local craft store, as it’s made from the ubiquitous Caron Simply Soft Yarn. This readily available and budget-friendly worsted weight yarn is super soft and comfortable. It’s a 100% acrylic yarn that is quite durable! Even better, it’s machine washable. So I highly recommend it for this crochet spring cardigan project, but you can really use any worsted weight yarn you’d like.

Basic Stitches & Crochet Hook

The Pink Wine Cardigan is mostly constructed with double crochet stitches, one of the simplest basic stitches, with back loop single crochet for the tightly woven edging.  I love using double crochet stitches for a crochet garment because it’s such a basic stitch, yet it creates an almost delicate airy lace stitch!

In terms of the crochet hook, I used a Furls Streamline hook in the beautiful Café colorway (what about a wine-themed color palate for hooks?) for this project. It has a very sturdy grip that makes it easy on the hands and perfect for working with lighter yarn. I specifically used a 5.50 mm crochet hook! These hooks are my absolute favorite and I use them for every single crochet project. I have a set I received about a year ago (Shout out to my parents for the amazing birthday gift!) and honestly there has been no looking back. These hooks are stunning and crocheting with them is a breeze because of the thick handles. Check out the post I did comparing different Furls crochet hooks here for more information!

Skill Level

Since this crochet cardigan is exclusively basic stitches, I would consider it an easy pattern. However, you should be familiar with how to read a basic crochet pattern. Great for the adventurous beginner crocheter!

Stitch Markers

Embarking on a crochet project without stitch markers is like setting sail without a compass – you might get somewhere, but the journey is bound to be a bit chaotic! So I highly recommend you utilize stitch markers for this easy crochet top! Stitch markers will help you keep track of your progress, helping you keep track of crucial points and preventing mistakes. Check out this post on the best stitch markers for your crochet project if you’re curious about why you should use them!

With its unique chain space designs, The Pink Wine cardigan is funky enough to make a statement but refined enough to be dressed up as well. This slightly cropped cardigan is a stunning wearable design that pairs nicely with high-waisted jeans and a glass of your favorite wine.

Jessica
